DT Max T1

1. Version highlights - Enhancements

  1. Entering the QPP, CPP and QPIP contributions and the CPP and QPP pensionable earnings in the pre- and post-bankruptcy returns

Further to a Revenu Québec requirement regarding bankruptcy returns, the deductions as well as the pensionable earnings pertaining to both the pre- and post-bankruptcy periods should appear on the corresponding lines of the respective pre- and post-bankruptcy returns. These include amounts that are reported on lines 96, 96.1 and 97, as well as those reported on lines 98 and 98.1 of the TP1 return. DT Max will enter the appropriate amounts in the corresponding boxes either in the pre- or the post-bankruptcy return, as applicable.

  2. Reporting eligible Quebec enterprise number (NEQ) on forms TP-1029.ER (ÉcoRénov) and TP-1029.LR (LogiRénov)

Pursuant to recent instructions from Revenu Québec regarding the minimum and maximum values to enter in the field pertaining to the Quebec enterprise number (NEQ), the range for these values has been established between 1100000000 and 3399999999 and has now been integrated in DT Max.

  3. NetFile Quebec error diagnostic for invalid QST number when claiming the ÉcoRenov and/or LogiRénov tax credits

In the case of a contractor who did not provide a valid QST number to a taxpayer claiming the ÉcoRenov and/or LogiRénov tax credits, please note that a NetFile Quebec error diagnostic will be generated only if an invalid QST number has been entered in the Data entry screen, to notify the DT Max user to make the necessary correction.

  4. Reporting employment income and a business loss

When an individual reports an amount of employment income and must also report a business loss incurred during the year, the Canada Revenue Agency recommends not entering any CPP overpayment on line 448 of the federal tax return. However, the overpayment amount that was calculated on federal Schedule 8 should also appear on line 308, "CPP or QPP contributions: through employment from box 16 and box 17 of all T4 slips (attach Schedule 8 or Form RC381, whichever applies)", of federal Schedule 1. Starting with version 18.11, DT Max will automatically enter the required amounts in the appropriate fields for that particular situation. The CRA will perform the necessary adjustments.

  5. Eligible beneficiary not claiming the Tax Credit for the Beneficiary of a Designated Trust

Starting with version 18.11, even if an individual who is a beneficiary of a designated trust is not claiming the Quebec tax credit for the beneficiary of a designated trust, DT Max will automatically check box 22 of the TP1 Quebec tax return.

  6. CRA Tax Data Delivery - Methods for selecting clients to use

It is now possible to select clients to use with the Canada Revenue Agency's (CRA) Tax Data Delivery (TDD) service in two different ways:

    • Single family method (via the Data Entry screen) - Only clients belonging to the same family can be selected.
    • Multiple family method (NEW!) (via the Client List screen) - Clients can be selected from one or more families.

This addition gives tax preparers even more flexibility when using the TDD service.

See the CRA Tax Data Delivery knowledge base page for more information on this exciting feature.

  7. Forms T1013 and MR-69 already generated in a prior year

Please note that for clarification purposes, the wording of the option used in the drop-down menu for the keyword Authorize , pertaining to forms T1013 and MR-69 that were already generated in a prior year, has been modified as follows: "T1013 was generated in a prior year" or "MR-69 was generated in a prior year", as applicable. The following diagnostics will be generated by DT Max to notify the user:

    T1013 - Authorizing or Cancelling a Representative

Based on the carry-forward data for this taxpayer, we have determined that an authorization form was previously generated with a prior year version of DT Max. If, in fact, this form was never filed with the tax authorities, then use the keyword Authorize to allow DT Max to produce a new Form T1013 with this year's version of the program.

MR-69 - Power of Attorney, Authorization to Communicate Information, or Revocation

Based on the carry-forward data for this taxpayer, we have determined that an authorization form was previously generated with a prior year version of DT Max. If, in fact, this form was never filed with the tax authorities, then use the keyword Authorize to allow DT Max to produce a new Form MR-69 with this year's version of the program.

2. New options

  1. For the keyword RepaidAmount , pertaining to the deduction for the repayment of unused contributions to an RRSP or a PRPP, code 6 on line 250 of the TP1 Quebec tax return:

Unused PRPP contributions (T746) - income in the year

This option pertains to the work chart for the calculation of the amount for retirement income on Quebec Schedule B, as well as to Part A, "Retirement income transferred to your spouse", on Quebec Schedule Q.

Unused RRSP and SPP contributions (T746)

  2. For the keyword PreBank-Fed , pertaining to the federal post-bankruptcy return, to distinguish the CPP contribution from the QPP contribution:

CPP - CPP contributions deducted on T4

  3. For the keyword Progress , which is generated on the Data entry screen when the federal form T1013 is printed:

      T1013 - Authorization form - printed

This option will appear along with the printing date, as a means of confirmation.

3. Reminder

We would like to remind users that, as per the CRA's instructions, the authorized representatives are required to have their client sign the T1013 prior to efiling the return.
